Four years after Doonbeg Golf Club opened to international raves, the club finally will have lodging to match. In June, Doonbeg will unveil a series of buildings with stone facades- clubhouse, pub, restaurants, spa, and eventually 56 suites.
While Doonbeg allows limited public play, only members can buy the one-to-four bedroom suites. Those owners retain preferred access, but suites will be available for guest bookings, with summer prices ranging from $596 per night for a one-bedroom suite to $1,314 for four bedrooms. Tee times aren't guaranteed, but guests will receive priority over other non-members.
"The course demanded that we build facilities commensurate with the quality of golf," says Buddy Darby, chairman and CEO of Kiawah Development Partners, the South Caroline-based owners of Doonbeg. "We think we've now set the bar for what embodies the best golf experience." (doonbeggolfclub.com, 843-768-6100).
