PRESS RELEASE
The Lodge at Doonbeg Golf Club
Offers Luxurious Home Base
for Ireland Adventures
Doonbeg, County Clare, Ireland - Whether you're with your family or your foursome, typical hotel rooms can cramp your style when you're traveling or golfing abroad. The Lodge at Doonbeg Golf Club, which opened in May 2006, offers ideal accommodations for more comfortable travel.
The Lodge's spacious one-to-four bedroom suites and cottages provide great luxury and privacy for groups of travelers. The location allows the golfing members of your party to play several courses, and makes for a great home base from which non-golfers can conveniently daytrip to see the sights. Each suite has both kitchen and living areas and offers greater value than reserving multiple rooms in a typical hotel.
Doonbeg Golf Club is a private club with limited visitor access to golf and accommodation, upon availability. In addition to members'-only amenities, including a Members' clubhouse, The Lodge complex - located adjacent to the course with sweeping views of the Atlantic - encompasses member-owned residences. These "suites" and "cottages," much more than traditional hotel rooms, offer differing configurations from one to four bedrooms along with the added space and convenience of a living room and kitchen. When our international members are not in residence, suites and golf access may be offered to visitors.
Set along 1.5 picturesque miles of crescent-shaped beach near the tiny parish of Doonbeg in southwest Ireland, Doonbeg Golf Club is one of Ireland's most prestigious golf destinations. The Lodge, located adjacent to Greg Norman's signature links-style course, has sweeping views of the Atlantic, plus easy access from Shannon airport. As you drive to The Lodge, beautiful rolling fields and farm houses stretch into the distance. All of a sudden, the massive dunes become visible, with glimpses of emerald fairways interwoven with stretches of tall marram grass. Pulling into the private courtyard you're greeted warmly by staff members who will see to your luggage and clubs and make you feel right at home. While you're a guest, the concierge team graciously manages your tee times and activities.
Lodge suites have dramatic views of the 1st and 18th holes, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. The Garden House and Norman suites surround a flower-filled courtyard. Many suites offer vistas of the gardens, some stretching to the Skivileen River. The 17 Links Cottages located just before the entrance to the Lodge are larger than the suites and a bit more private. Some cottages stand alone, while others are joined as pairs. The Links Cottages boast views of the fairways and countryside and are all 4 bedrooms. Each bedroom in the suites and cottages has its own bath with large marble slab shower seats, stone vanities, and heated towel racks. All suites and cottages are designed for the ultimate in comfort, convenience, and luxury, with kitchens custom-designed by SieMatic.
From your perch on the Atlantic, all kinds of adventures await. You can hike along The Cliffs of Moher and the Cliffs of Baltard to take in breathtaking Atlantic Ocean vistas. Visit The Burren, a vast limestone plateau that's home to plant species typically found only in other parts of the world, as well as many fascinating animals and birds. At the Burren Smokehouse, you can see salmon as it's freshly smoked, and visit the gourmet store for cheeses, wines, and, of course, smoked salmon for a countryside picnic. The Lodge also offers fine dining experiences masterminded by renowned chef Tom Colicchio, the culinary force behind New York City's Gramercy Tavern and Craft, as well as lavish treatments in a spa designed by the award-winning Clodagh.
The Doonbeg project started life as an initiative by the local community to encourage tourism for the area. They are assisted by Shannon Development which brought the project to the world market where it was embraced by Kiawah Development Partners (KDP), a South Carolina company already involved in luxury development and golf related projects.
"Doonbeg Golf Club is the single largest tourism project ever to have been undertaken in the West of Ireland. We were delighted to have secured Kiawah Development Partners as project developers who have succeeded in sensitively developing a links course that is now recognized as one of the world's greats. We are proud to have been instrumental in bringing it about," said Kevin Thompstone, chief executive, Shannon Development.
