Since its opening, Doonbeg Golf Club has been host to many journalists from throughout the world who visit to enjoy – and report on – our unique combination of stunning scenery, golf, fine dining, White Horses Spa, and luxurious accommodations. Many journalists from Ireland, the UK, United States and beyond have publicized Doonbeg for golf, travel, luxury, spa, tour, and other publications, as well as for websites and broadcast programs.    

 

One of the highlights of Doonbeg’s journalist-related outreach has been the Doonbeg Writers Cup. The Writers Cup is hosted by Doonbeg every other year, in late spring or early summer, and features a 3-day golf tournament played between EU and US teams of journalists. Writers Cup events have so far been held in 2004, 2006, and 2008. While the journalists are at Doonbeg for each Cup to play in a friendly golf competition, we have worked hard to show them such an enjoyable time that, when they return to their home regions or countries, they will think fondly of – and write about – Doonbeg for years to come! 

 

We have now formed a Writers Club so that we can keep in touch with Writers Cup journalists when they are not actively planning a visit to Doonbeg. Every writer and team captain who has played on a Writers Cup team is a member of the Club; and only past Cup players may be Club members.
